To renew a 5-year residency card issued under the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement, British expats will need to prepare the following paperwork:
Checklist for Renewal
Current Residency Card:
Your existing 5-year residency card (or a replacement if the original was lost or stolen).
Valid Passport:
A British passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the renewal date.
Passport-Style Photographs:
Three recent passport-sized photos that meet French photo requirements.
Proof of Residency:
Documents showing you have been living in France continuously, such as utility bills, rental agreements, or bank statements.
Proof of Financial Stability (if requested):
Evidence of income or savings to demonstrate you can support yourself in France.
Health Insurance:
Proof of health insurance coverage, either through the French system (Carte Vitale) or private insurance.
Appointment Confirmation:
Confirmation of your appointment at the local prefecture for submitting your renewal application.

Important Notes:
Timing: Apply for renewal 2–3 months before your current card expires.
Upgrade to 10-Year Card: If you’ve lived in France for five years or more, you may be eligible to upgrade to a 10-year permanent residency card.
